The 12th Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair will be held in Lanzhou city, Gansu Province, on August 26-29, 2004. It will be sponsored by China International Trade Promotion Council, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and seven provincial and municipal governments including Tianjin Municipal Government, assisted by 14 organizations like Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and organized by Gansu Provincial People's Government and Lanzhou Municipal Government.

Located at the juncture of eastern, central and northwest parts of China, Gansu province boasts the geographic advantages of convenient access to every part of China. It serves as an important passage joining Asia-Pacific region, Eurasia and even Atlantic areas. The world famous ancient Silk Road cuts its way through the whole province, making Gansu one of the vanguards opening to the outside world. Gansu is richly endowed with abundant resources in mine, hydropower, flora and fauna, sunshine, culture and tourism, hence the major base for energy and raw materials in China. Its capital city Lanzhou is the geometric center of Chinese territory, also a key transportation and communication hub, and a commercial and trade center in northwest China.  

The Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair has been successfully held for eleven times. It is the most high-profiled economic event in Gansu province with widespread influence not only in the northwest but throughout China. The yearly fair has set a stage for businessmen at home and abroad to learn, to access and to develop the west. It has also become an effective showcase of Gansu to the outside world and a main channel to attract investment.

The main theme of the fair is opening, exploitation, cooperation and development. It will give top priority to investment promotion and business discussion, focusing on property transfer, talent introduction, resources development, economic restructuring, enterpriser purchase and merge,as well as building commercial and trade center in the northwest. It will also feature various cultural and tourist activities based on Dunhuang culture, Fuxi culture and the Yellow River culture.
